The Island Intelligencer, launched on 04 July 2023, is the product of J.P. Atwell, a former CIA Senior Operations Officer, national security newspaper columnist, college lecturer on intelligence and national security matters, editor for intelligence analysis products for a private intelligence company in Europe, and curation editor for a weekly intel-news product for intelligence retirees.
Spy buffs, current and former intelligence officers, academics, and those who are just intellectually curious will find herein a comfortable nook in which to learn about, comment on, and discuss all things espionage.
Be warned. This platform focuses on quality over quantity. You will not see weekly, let alone more frequent, editorial content, though the standing resources (like espionage films and museums) are regularly refreshed. You will not see from the host (or any guest authors) posts that are stream of consciousness, vacation musings, or speculation (under the guise of true analysis).
Articles are posted every four-to-six weeks and consist of reprints of Mr. Atwell’s monthly column in a hardcopy newspaper, the Hawaii Tribune Herald, where they go through a formal editorial process before publication.

A former CIA Senior Operations officer, he now teaches college courses on intelligence and national security, authors the monthly Hawaii Tribune Herald column The Island Intelligencer, serves as Editor in Chief for a private intelligence company in Europe and as Editor of the Weekly Intelligence Notes of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO).
